Description
The JA Solar 550W Mono PERC Half-Cell MBB (JAM72S30-550) is one of the most widely installed solar panels in South Africa, favoured by installers for its consistently high quality, accurate power labelling, and JA Solar’s Tier 1 supply chain.
PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell) technology adds a reflective layer at the rear of each silicon cell, capturing light that would otherwise pass through the wafer unused. Combined with Multi-Busbar (MBB) interconnection — where nine thin busbars replace the traditional three or four thicker ones — the result is improved current collection across the cell and reduced resistive losses.
Half-cut cell design divides each cell into two halves that operate as separate sub-circuits. This means partial shading on one half of the panel (from a chimney, satellite dish, or tree branch) only reduces output from that half — the other half continues operating at full power. Conventional full-cell panels lose the output of an entire cell string under even partial shading.
At 550W nameplate rating and 20.7% efficiency, this panel maximises generation per square metre of roof space — important for South African homes and commercial buildings where roof area is finite. The 12-year product warranty and 25-year linear power output guarantee (82% at 25 years) make it a long-term investment with predictable returns.
